Skating technique - skating is a key factor in catching and should never be neglected. Goalies have a specific skating style and therefore this skill should be given special attention.
Movement in the crease - this is directly related to proper skating technique and our goal here is to learn goal orientation and proper coverage. In this section we also teach how to properly use the goal structure and angles to your advantage.
Balance and reaction drills - the goalkeeper will often get into an unstable position during the game, from which he or she must take action and then get back to the starting position to be ready for the next possible threat to his or her goal. This process is very taxing on balance and weight transfer, in which the centre of the body figures heavily. For this reason, balance exercises are ideal for goalkeepers. A quick reaction is also often needed to catch the puck, along with accurate tracking, which allows for a more confident intervention. Reaction and balance drills are very useful to combine.
